Joseph M. Light is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in emergency services and homeland security. Currently serving as the Operations & Training Coordinator at the County of Lehigh’s Emergency Management Agency, Joseph is responsible for the development and implementation of programs designed to enhance the county's emergency preparedness. His role includes coordinating training efforts, acting as the lead liaison for the Limerick Generating Station Nuclear Power Plant, and managing the Lehigh County Emergency Operations Center (EOC). He has also played a pivotal role in emergency response efforts, working closely with regional and state agencies to ensure a high level of readiness in disaster situations.
In addition to his role at Lehigh County, Joseph serves as an adjunct instructor at multiple institutions, including Northampton Community College, Bucks County Community College, Harrisburg Area Community College and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency. His contributions to education and training in emergency services have helped shape the next generation of responders and enhanced the capabilities of existing professionals in the field.
Joseph’s career began in emergency medical services (EMS), where he worked as an EMT for over a decade. He held various leadership positions in EMS, including Lieutenant, Treasurer, Safety Officer, Vice President and President of the East Allen Township Volunteer Ambulance Corps. He also worked at Northampton Regional EMS for over a decade as well. He also volunteers with the Northampton Fire Department, where he has been an active firefighter and EMT since 2018 and now a contributing member.
Joseph holds an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from Northampton Community College and a Bachelor’s degree in Homeland Security from DeSales University. He is currently pursuing his Master's degree in Homeland Security with a concentration in Emergency Management. He holds numerous certifications, including Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Incident Command System (ICS), and Hazardous Materials Technician, among many others.
Beyond his professional life, Joseph enjoys spending time with his three children. A devoted fan of NASCAR, he loves to follow the sport and often travels to Wildwood, NJ, where he enjoys the beach and family time.
